Summer Saving Tips: HVAC Edition
Wallet Can't Stand the Heat? Check Out These Energy Saving HVAC Tips
Is your energy bill draining your pockets as fast as the summer heat drains you? Don't forgo the comfort of air conditioning. There are better ways to save a few bucks.
Wash your Unit
Your outdoor unit is, well, outdoors. It accumulates dirt and debris on the cooling coils every time it kicks on. The dirtier your unit, the harder it has to work to cool your house. Do yourself a favour by cleaning the coils at least each spring before you begin using your air conditioner. You can do this yourself, or you can call an HVAC professional from Aire One Heating and Cooling to assure it is done correctly.
Change your Filter
Your intake filter is dual purpose. It helps keep your unit clean, and it reduces the amount of dust and allergens you breathe in. The best way to save on your cooling bill is to be sure all components of your system are as clean as possible. Change your filter every month. You'll be amazed at what it looks like after just a few weeks of use!
Seal your House
If you have drafty doors or windows, be sure to seal them up. If you can afford to swap to energy efficient double panes, great! If not, you can cover your windows with plastic or seal cracks with caulking to cut down on drafts. Place a rolled up towel under drafty doors and close off the vents in any room you aren't using. Any air loss you can prevent will help your unit run in a more cost-effective manor. You can also use blackout panels to reduce the amount of heat coming in through your windows.
Book a Yearly Tune Up
